We, Scott and Genevieve, met and fell in love while thru-hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in 2016. After completing the trail, Scott, a born and bred Nebraskan, moved up to Canada so that we could be together. We were married shortly thereafter and we planned to hike the Continental Divide Trail for our honeymoon in 2017. Scott spent the winter and spring designing and sewing backpacks that we would use for our upcoming hike, working with an old sewing machine he picked up from our local thrift shop.
Fast forward a year and a half, after having completed the CDT with the packs that Scott made, we launched Northern Ultralight in June of 2018. The Sundown was born after many design iterations, and extensive testing. We proudly produce all of our gear at our home-based workshop in Nelson, British Columbia: a town nestled in the mountains of the West Kootenay region. We are thrilled to have found a way to stay connected to the trail, knowing that the gear we make will play a small part in allowing others to experience wild places on Earth.
